New Great America Shuttle Buses

I had a great opportunity on Wednesday to go with ACE staff and our partners at VTA to view our new Great America shuttle buses.  The new shuttles are propane powered, thus reducing emissions and improving your carbon footprint.  It is great to know that many of our passengers are now using a combination of bike, train and propane powered shuttles to get to work.

Stimulus bill raises monthly commuter tax benefit, TransitCenter says

The economic stimulus package signed into law by President Obama yesterday doesn't only provide funding for transit agencies — it also will benefit those who ride the systems. The law raises the amount of pretax income that workers enrolled in employer-sponsored commuter benefits can use to pay for mass transit from $120 to $230 per month, according to nonprofit organization TransitCenter Inc.  The increase will enable transit-commuting employees to save up to $1,000 a year. In addition, companies that offer the benefit will save an additional $100 per employee in payroll taxes annually. Up to one-third of employers not currently offering the benefit would do so if the monthly transit benefit were increased, and 53 percent of employees would use the program if it was offered to them, according to recent TransitCenter surveys.

TransitCenter was created 20 years ago to "develop innovative ways to encourage greater use of mass transit in order to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality," according to the organization.

Update on ACE Delay

This morning at approximately 4:30 AM, ACE was notified of a problem with the tracks along a curved portion of the railroad between Tracy and Vasco.  A part of the track pulled apart, causing a gap, preventing any trains from passing through.  ACE 01 was delayed at the Tracy Station and ultimately annulled; the train traveled back to Stockton to allow passengers to find alternative means of getting to get to their destination.  ACE 03 was also annulled.  The track was temporarily fixed by UPRR to allow ACE 05 to pass through.  The Midday Train and all PM trains are scheduled to run while work continues to fix the track
